How Do I Determine My EORI Number?

An EORI number (Economic Operator Registration and Identification) is an identification number used to conduct business with UK Customs. You use this number for every export declaration you make.

Here's how!

If you are VAT registered, take your VAT registration number (VRN) and prefix it with 'GB'. For most businesses, your EORI number will be GB + VRN + '000'.

Example: If your VRN is GB123456789, your EORI number will be: GB123456789000.

If you do not have a VAT registration number, you will need to apply for an EORI number directly. This can typically be done through the HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) website.

Note: As of January 1, 2021, due to the UK leaving the EU, any business in the UK that imports or exports goods with the EU will need an EORI number that starts with 'GB'. If you move goods to or from Northern Ireland, you might also need an EORI number that starts with 'XI'.

You can use your EORI number instantly

You can use your EORI number right away without needing to report it to Customs. Customs will automatically check and register the number the first time you use it in a declaration or when applying for a permit.
